@BeddieKU23 more apt to say that about Udeh though. Zuby at least ended up with a coach comparable to Self. Not that rick is as good at developing big men, but he is still one of the best all time coaches.
Mostly curious if the F4 will be vacated
Roster depth is not great but should be ok as long as the gaurds don't get injured. Probably won't have as good of practice bodies but who's to say how much impact that has. Bill never plays more than 8-9 at the end of the season and we at least have that. Can't say I'm not nervous with Kevin's injury history though
Maybe but getting good recruits as freshmen is still a good tool and think the best approach is to balance that with the portal. Yes, there is a risk of them leaving, but feel like in general a freshman recruit has a better change of eventually breaking the starting lineup than if we have a 10th man who was a transfer. If they see the path for them, they will probably stick around a place like KU and if they don't, then it is not a loss if they leave. Udeh didn't leave until he was going to be burried on the bench behind Hunter and we aren't going to get a transfer of the caliber every year
@jayballer67 I don't recall ever seeing that, but even if he did we see people change their mind all the time with regards to returning. We know hunter is likley making around the NBA min so would be weird to see him take a pay cut to play in the g league or Europe. Maybe Bill doesn't want him for 2 years? That seems unlikely but could just be Hunter wants to be one with college after 4 years? If that's not the case though, hopefully Flory has considered and is ok with that or else there is a chance we might see him decommiting next spring.
Flory seem to be ranked highly just based on his athleticism though, so it would make sense for him to end up being a 2 year player so he can improve on passing/defense/shooting. Just hearing the comps to Diallo and Azubuike makes me think that he will have a hard time going in the lottery if he isn't elite at one of those to complement his rim running ability.
Do we know why morris isn't playing?
Sounds promising if not for this year, for next
@FarmerJayhawk was it an ugly 3 or a pretty one?
Listed as a SF so theoretically can play the 3/4 but I'm skeptical he can play the 4 at a high enough defensive level to keep Self happy. Granted this is based on only having heard him described as a skilled player with no mention of defense.
@Jethro Agreed and I feel like the offensive concerns listed seem overblown. Clemence was a bucket every time he stepped out on the court last year and will open the floor up to get to the hoop even if we have average gaurd 3 pt shooting. College 3pt% generally improves year over year too so I don't think that will even be as bad as it looks. If I had to pick a something to be worried about, it would be getting Clemence to improve on interior defense and having gaurds that can pressure the ball and make the entry pass harder will help some there.
@Marco which is weird since I remember Dave being a pretty good rebounder the last 2 years. Could be that he was going up against backup bigs a lot of the time but still I would be a bit optimistic that the rebounding can improve. We haven't seen anything to indicate that the shot selection and rim protection will come along though.
@justanotherfan sounds like we could have used silvio this year
@KirkIsMyHinrich FYI you can always block people
Looks like we should have a Silvio answer soon:
He also needs to learn to drive left to play the point effectively.
If I remember correctly, he was below 50% from the FT line his freshman year. If he has a similar improvement this offseason, I bet it will be hard for Bill to resist keeping him out of the starting lineup.
Looks like Seth Davis is backing that up. Not in a possitive way though.
Yeah, Bill isn't getting fired even if there is a smoking gun that links him to a payment.
@JayHawkFanToo The loophole was closed for all NCAA sports as a bylaw to their general amateurism rules: https://static.lrbears.com/custompages/Compliance/BylawArticle12-Amateurism.pdf β
If you have any proof that basketball would be exempt for this bylaw, I would ask that you share it. It also doesn't matter what school orginized the payment. If someone or their family is paid by any party, they lose their amateur status.
It really seems think everyone is in a wait and see mode for what the FBI do next. I wouln't be surprised if we don't know if Silvio is playing or not until the first game of the season.
@JayHawkFanToo I haven't seen anything to disuade me that the worst case is still that he is just straight up ruled ineligible and not allowed to play. The sum of money he was allegedly paid is higher than the Diallo's case. Even if he gets the same ruling, he would have to pay the money back and we don't even know if he can afford to do so. I know I wouldn't have been able to pay $20,000+ back as a college student.
I think you are reading too much into the inaction by the NCAA as well. It is being reported that they haven't done anything yet as they want to let the FBI investigation run its course. I also haven't seen any news that the FBI has even shared its evidence with the NCAA, so it would be hard for them to investigate until that happens.
I want to be as optimistic as you are but every time I think about the scenario, I can't see how Silvio doesn't get a suspension unless the FBI evidence isn't substansial or it is withheld from the NCAA. Alternatively, this could blow up so much that they can't afford to suspend everyone caught up in it.
@jayballer73 He is more a comparable size to Frank. I believe Nic Moore was on the wrong side of 5-9
@BShark Agreed. KU has already shown that they won't play people with ongoing eligibility issues (i.g. the Billy situation) and I would be surprised if the NCAA even starts their official investigation by the start of next season with the rate they are moving. I don't know how people are so optimistic.
@JayHawkFanToo And if there is actual evidence to back up the inditement, he will be ineligible. The NCAA loophole around the guardian accepting payment was closed. The only I see for him out of it is to hope their evidence is flimsy/hearsay or to hope that the investigation gets a lot bigger and the NCAA makes a compromise on their rules.
@Buster-1926 I'm confused as to what paying the school back for a scholarship solves? If anything, it furthur incentives someone to take money from an agent as they would have and immidiate debt of $30,000 at the end of their first year if they end up going to the draft. Maaaaaaaaybe it incentiveses them to stay in school a year longer, but then they are another year out of making money (even further incentivation to take money upfront from an agent).
Your rant about responsibility is a little extreeme as well. These kids have given their word that they will play for a school for a year. Not 4, a year. And 99% of them stay for the full season. If we had an issue where players were getting called up to play for an NBA team in the middle of the season and leaving their school, I could maybe get on board with you.
Also, taxpayer money has nothing to do with this situtuation so I don't know why that is being brought up. College basketball programs fund themselves.
Sadly, I think the description on the second matches Garrett closer than Billy
Small caveat is that no coaches are listed in the Kansas section
Two players listed with Silvio signing date matching one description. It is between Billy and Garrett for the other one.
Effort is needed but just as important for defense is intelligence. Knowing the scouting defense and where to be positionally is why average 4 yr athletes can be better defensive players than the majority of one and dones (i.e. the Brady Morningstar Effect). Effort gets you 90% of the way there, but a good offense/coach will recognize when a team is overextending and out of position because they are trying to do too much.
@stoptheflop Nothing wrong with a little speculation as long you keep in mind it is just that. We definitely don't know for sure this is the same girl in all 3 cases and don't know who committed the vandalism either. Interesting that this happened over two months ago and no charges have been filed even though there are witnesses.
Just to get the rumor mill churning on this, I'd say it is payback from this girl after the Bragg incident. It would match up with the other rumors saying this is the same girl in both the Bragg and Vick case and that she embellished both times.

Think Self will just set Jackson at the top of the key and let him have his way the 2-3 zone all game.
@Crimsonorblue22 unless they come out in m2m, I don't think they even have a chance to
Think Self will just set Jackson at the top of the key and let him have his way the 2-3 zone all game. What KU does to defend Motley will be another story. Time to see if we have learned how to defend a good 4 man yet.

The latest update on the case: Bragg filing for self defense and should have an update on the motion within five days.
@JayHawkFanToo agreed on Kentucky. Just skipped over the game when looking at the schedule since it got lost in the conference games.
I stand by that Kansas shouldn't be favored vs Duke just because of the travel from the Indiana game in Hawaii on top of the poor Champions Classic record.
@drgnslayr I haven't seen ball handling/distribution from Vick that would make me think he could be a good PG so Svi would be my first PG3 option.
Personally, I would even rank Josh Jackson as a better emergency PG option than Vick. Granted this is off an extremely small sample size of watching both of them play.
@hawkmoon2020 If he doesn't qualify, I'd imagine he would be pushed towards the overseas route. If he is a partial qualifier, I could see a slight chance of him sticking around. Without the partial he has to go back to prep school and there is nothing stopping the NCAA from disqualifying him again (like the situation with eubanks)
