all those spam votes from the same IP

You can't just remove votes from the same IP, because often proxies are in the path and the site doesn't see the individual IP address of the browser. There has to be more complex logic involved in detecting spam votes.

If we don't know what that logic is, we don't know how to circumvent it.

Anyone Else • Mar 17, 2017 03:56 PM

@BShark Do you know if there is a site where Conference records are updated? Curious to know how the Big 12 is doing compared to others.

Anyone Else • Mar 17, 2017 03:54 PM

@BShark Confirm for me: Big 12 is 3-0 so far? KSU, WVU, ISU?

Since there are only 6 teams in and you name 3, I imagine I didn't mess anything...

Unless UCLA empties coffers to retain Steve Alford, he will come home to Indiana. Secondary impetus: his having to cope with Lonzo Ball's dad thru two more sibling recruits.

That's a good one, a coach who changes jobs so his recruits DON'T follow him there !

@BeddieKU23 I'm up for any huge upset that improves KU's chances down the road!

Has anyone picked KU to win it? • Mar 15, 2017 06:51 PM

Wide open tourney, BIFM comin’ through!

Yeah, baby! Though it won't be so wide open as time goes on.

For example, UNC and UK are less favored because they are in the same region. UK gets upset and UNC's chances will be perceived much differently.

Pick your poison, but if we help less off shooters and open the drive even more, Lucas might get fouled up and then what?

Self must be teaching a "protect Landen " D.

No problem at all.

@mayjay said:

@ParisHawk I think that is a good guess on the TNT, because I suspect they will want the same announcers. But I never really trust them to be consistent.

Same here, especially since one year I think I saw the same announcers in the same venue on two different channels. CBS may demand the top match-ups.

The praise for Aldrich isn’t that he played so stupendously or that he single-handedly defeated UNC. It is that he came off the bench in a crucial situation as a freshman in the biggest test of his life until then, played the POY of the year evenly, and gave the rest of KU’s players the room to move on offense and take risks on defense by giving KU much-needed rim protection.

I vividly remember everything except the situation being critical, which made me somewhat underestimate, not Cole's contribution, but the importance of it.

I'll adjust my memories based on your recap: thanks much !

Schedule • Mar 14, 2017 02:50 PM

@dylans Thanks, but why are you telling me that? If I don't know that KU plays Friday on TNT, then my post about playing Sunday on TNT makes no sense.

Whatever...

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge! • Mar 14, 2017 02:47 PM

@Blown I have never done a bracket or bet on games, but if I did I would try to be "anti-emotional". I would try to figure out who else was being emotional and bet against them.

That is why i don't bet on KU: too many fans voting for KU push the line in the wrong direction, so the tactical move would be to bet against.

It would be terrific to know what teams over the years have won or lost the most money to those who bet on them. I suppose it should be public knowledge what teams have done best or worst against the spread?

Schedule • Mar 14, 2017 02:44 PM

@mayjay said:

Here is the full tournament schedule with the times bracketed for future rounds. You won't know which slot KU will be in, but by looking at who plays early Friday you should get some idea who plays early Sunday, etc. You can see that there is a single game in the first slot at noon, another at 2:30, then several time slots with more. It will be interesting to see who gets put in the two isolated game times.

Remember to look at the Sunday times as pairs of games in each venue. Since we play early evening on Friday, I would guess that we play mid to late afternoon Sunday, but that is just a guess. Maybe 2:30 would be a good guess, but that could be Duke

Thanks for the link. TNT has 4 games Friday and 2 games Sunday, so I would imagine that we will wind up in the first TNT slot on Sunday, which is 6 P.M. EASTERN TIME (caps not for you, but for anyone who is time zone challenged). Or am I wrong in assuming that the same network covers the same pod both days?

"Gotta Tighten Some Things Up" • Mar 14, 2017 02:28 PM

@mayjay How many minutes did Aldrich play: 8? Didn't we lead 40-18 at one point? We outplayed them greatly outside of the 8 minutes Aldrich played.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong and good for you, but I need more detail. I remember Aldrich's play as more icing than cake. Now, what I don't remember is why he played, foul trouble and such. Maybe we would have been thin without him?

Anybody rewatched the 2008 UNC game recently?

"Gotta Tighten Some Things Up" • Mar 14, 2017 01:02 PM

@chriz said:

Let's hope Coleby turns into the 2008 Aldrich. At which point I'll surely call him...COLEBY ALDRICH!

I don't know why everybody romanticizes Aldrich's contribution in 2008. The only thing he did the entire tournament was play great against Tyler Hansborough (sp?) in the first half when we were pounding them into the ground anyway.

I love Aldrich, but he could have stayed home and it would not have made any difference in 2008.

I would enjoy being wrong about this, but I would need some genuine facts.

I'm surprised by some of the reactions to these stories.

The latest KC Star article is so much more factual than what I am used to here in France. I see little wrong with it.

"Only harm done to a car", indeed! If my daughter was inside a car while a world-class athlete, and apparently a small crowd, was damaging it I would be incredibly upset and angry. Surely that was a traumatic experience.

"Throwing a drink in someone's face is battery" - Jeez.

The computer systems don't like KU..except for Massey that now has KU as #2.

They don't like KU as much - because we won a lot of close games. That's just the way predictive systems tend to work.

My point was, the BPI is not an "alternative fact" adjusted to make KU look bad.

In 2008 when KU was steamrolling everybody, we were very high up on kenpom - because we blew teams out.

Big-12 Tourney as of today • Feb 27, 2017 01:06 PM

Having Baylor, a pretty highly-ranked team, in the semi-final allows us to "process" (= lose) with little risk to the #1 seed - producing an extra day of rest.

If the #1 seed were a lock, I would be tempted to "process" the first game anyway...

Just don't care for / about the Big 12 Tournament.

If memory serves, the Big 12 has always brought a trophy to games where one team could clinch at least a tie. They don't wait for outright.

Espn is neat. • Feb 24, 2017 06:07 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I saw your point and still see it. It's just a matter of how much weight we each give to "the single greatest run of dominance in major college sports history," Again, if there were just a bit more achievement this century there would be less doubt.

Similarly, I weigh Embiid's brief shining moment more heavily than others, even if it was cut short.

Espn is neat. • Feb 24, 2017 09:07 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Like your list and your reasoning, but UCLA is the most exceptional exception in basketball history. If the program were slightly better in the 21st century there would be much less talk of "second tier".

Again, incognito window in Chrome or equivalent in other browsers: open window, vote, close window - then open and vote again as much as you wish.

Using Chrome:

1) open "incognito window"

2) vote for Frank

3) close window

Repeat steps 1) through 3) until you can't stand it any more.

Just a detail, but as I recall from stories about UK's palace and McCarthy when being built - the NCAA requires that half the students not be players.

No I haven't seen a player with possession of the ball pass it to himself off the backboard and dunk it.

OU pulls out the upset!!!! • Jan 19, 2017 03:38 PM

I like the streak and I don't see why we need to apologize for the "weakness" of the Big 12.

During the streak other teams have had transcendent players like Griffin and Durant.

Last year OU went to the Final Four.

The Big 12 is at worst a decent P5 basketball conference, and the streak is a remarkable achievement, based on a combination of great coaches / players and the AFH home advantage.

Welcome Back Devonte • Jan 09, 2017 10:07 AM

I could be way out in left field here, but I wonder if Devonte isn't trying to help Frank get NPOY or first-team All-American? He seems to want to defer a little bit.

The Big 12/SEC challenge requires KU to play an SEC school every year. KU does not choose its opponent.

It is conceivable that a KU-MU matchup would be forced on KU by the organizers of the challenge. However, last season and this season MU was not chosen to participate at all.

It wasn't possible as it showed the results again, but it had bumped Frank's vote numbers down to 170.

Same weird thing happened to me, but if you remove the "sbnation" cookies and refresh, then you get up to date numbers and you can vote again.

If you have Chrome, just open the link in an "incognito window", vote, close the window. This can be done any number of times. I imagine other browsers have similar mechanisms.

I have Mason at 191 votes, 13%

P.S. In other browsers it's call "private browsing" or with IE 10, "InPrivate". It also works on many sites that offer only so many free articles per month.
