Would love to know the cost and effort spent on the average recruit by the top 25 college brands vs KU.

If He Just Had Humility, He'd Be Perfect • May 31, 2019 12:48 PM

Lets get one more ball handler, then tell the NCAA we are self-disciplining for [single scholarship offense of their choice] and "take away" our last scholarship.

If He Just Had Humility, He'd Be Perfect • May 31, 2019 03:22 AM

Beard recruits grown ass men. Wilson is a deep bench player next year if he comes to KU. Seems Enanura is more advanced. Both could be decent stretch 4s in time.

Next year's team needs a wing and a PG more. I think the comment by Jalen about wanting to go where there is an opportunity to play immediately indicates that it isn't Kansas.

If He Just Had Humility, He'd Be Perfect • May 31, 2019 01:55 AM

Watched some Jalen Wilson videos and had a couple thoughts.

Plays below the rim and falls down a lot. Pace of games pretty slow, low level of competition. From what I saw he didn't display the athleticism of most of the kids on our team.

Nice shot. That would be helpful. But he won't be the best player on our team. Role player. Kind of like a B Greene. Game seems one dimensional at this point.

Seems like a decent kid when he did talk. I didnt get an overly arrogant vibe.

Have a very very hard time buying into Bill showing Grimes the door when he welcomed Vick back who was quadruple the headache.

Bill had to learn the hard way?

Latest on Dotson • May 30, 2019 01:59 AM

I'm relieved Grimes isn't with us next year. Nothing on this roster jumps out as possible drama. Wish him the best. I think this is emotionally best for both sides. If Dotson had left and Q returned it would have been a strained marriage maintained out of necessity.

Latest on Dotson • May 30, 2019 01:04 AM

We have two more schollies? Grimes or another combo and Jalen?

Latest on Dotson • May 30, 2019 12:36 AM

Latest on Dotson • May 30, 2019 12:34 AM

Where do you see he withdrew?

Latest on Dotson • May 30, 2019 12:31 AM

I won't feel burnt if Q comes back and gives it his all. I will feel burnt if he's a distraction. We cannot have another Vick this year. We need focus and clarity of purpose.

Latest on Dotson • May 30, 2019 12:00 AM

Maybe Devon will wait until 11:59:59 to declare and leave Q no time to say he's coming back.

Latest on Dotson • May 29, 2019 09:07 PM

When will we know?

Great game last night • May 29, 2019 04:22 PM

@wissox I was more interested in what he should have been in trade bait, rather than what I thought he would be as a player. Didn't have much confidence in Giolito. But we certainly should have gotten relief pitching for him instead of another outfielder. As for Reynaldo Lopez, I see he's inconsistent again this year. I was high on him, I felt like he could have been converted to a setup guy for us, possibly. When he was on he was electric.

The Nats could have had Chapman for Lopez and Giolito at the trade deadline, instead they ended up dealing a future All-Star Felipe Rivero for a much worse rental (Melancon) anyway, then parting with the two starters for a redundant position player (Eaton). Awful decisions by Mike Rizzo.

@Crimsonorblue22 tell brooks to come back!

RJ WHO ? • May 28, 2019 07:23 PM

Hyland is listed as a SG, but he's 6'3 and highlights show decent handles and ball in his hands a lot. Backup PG? I'm not sure I'm ready to see a 0 on the court yet. Unless he's a badass.

Bill Self: KU freshman Quentin Grimes ‘probably as complete a guard as we’ve ever had’

... you all ready to hit the rewind button to that point?

If Dotson stays gone, I still want to see Garrett run point because I still think he's the best PG on the team.

Garrett at PG with Silvio and Dok on the floor? I'd rather have McBride on the floor to shoot 3s. Take his licks and hope he's seasoned enough come tourney time.

@approxinfinity I’d say yes, but who are these three guards you speak of?

hypothetically. I'm wondering if Self managed to recruit some stellar 3 pt shooters if the 2 big game could still be a winning strategy. Esp if those two bigs shoot 66% from the field.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 26, 2019 12:45 AM

If we can get three guards who shoot comfortably in the 40s from 3 can 2 bigs work?

Not being too skeptical here, but ESPN broadcasting and announcement to KU? My first thought was that this has the earmarks of a Memphis announcement, and ESPN slobbering all over Hardaway and his #1 recruiting class. The next UK b.s. We've had so much negativity, it's hard to turn to positivity. I'm trying.

Skepticism is warranted. We’ve been snakebit by these things a lot. The last kid we got on an ESPN announcement was Billy. Whoops.

Well his commitment video was pretty epic, even if his time at Kansas wasn't...

@FarmerJayhawk if you don't see them together where does that leave Big Dave?

New 2019 Recruiting • May 22, 2019 04:03 PM

I think in the end, Self looks pretty good even if Grimes leaves undrafted. Kid got plenty of opportunities. Any recruit that gets dissuaded coming to KU because of Grimes getting misused would probably be a bad fit anyway. Is there someone Grimes is associated with that Self is targeting?

Game of Thrones • May 22, 2019 03:22 PM

The moral of the story is that life goes on and ends in disappointment right?

Game of Thrones • May 22, 2019 02:43 PM

@kjayhawks agree. Last few seasons were a lot of eyecandy and not much substance. Weird parallels to the OAD era?

I will say that the battle with the White Walkers was absolutely gorgeous.

Game of Thrones • May 21, 2019 01:29 PM

Having decisions hanging on the death of massundai (sp?) seemed a critical error. Her character was flat.

2020 Recruiting • May 21, 2019 01:24 PM

@HighEliteMajor agree with everything you said but the roster without Wiggins was a mess, esp when Embiid went down. Maybe if we saw that as a rebuilding year and invested in a multi year guy. Im behind that. At the time I think we were all behind the visibility of the #1 and #3 pick in draft for recruiting purposes. I wonder now if that mattered so much?

Game of Thrones • May 21, 2019 04:49 AM

Disappointed with the last 2 episodes. Thought it vacillated between predictable and illogical. I think you're right that missing character development in season 8 hurt.

Sorry about the outage • May 21, 2019 03:55 AM

Apparently the company I've registered our domain with is several decades behind the times in their billing policies, expecting electronic payment (cc# changed) to be received several days before due date (whaaat??), and I am a supreme procrastinator and did not account for this. Paid earlier today thinking we were good to go, then whammo! Sorry guys.

We should be fine now.

And really, in the big business that is college basketball (and it is a business) if I were the coach I would not allow the program to be taken hostage by the NBA draft. If they declare they go, as simple as that.

I can appreciate that sentiment but I think I'd want most of my guys back, even if they declare. At least this way, you hope they get honest feedback and don't leave. Like lets say Dotson comes back. What if he had declared and couldn't come back even after slipping out of the first round? I'd much rather have another year of Dotson. I'd also much rather have Q test the waters and see if someone else wants to take a gamble on him.

Honesty is the best policy here.

@approxinfinity Since Shaq, not Shaq’s equal though. I mean physically imposing like Shaq. No one can body him up. He’s not nearly as skilled as Shaq. He’s not a game changer like AD. He’s not fundamentally sound like Kaminski. He’s just freakin huge and you can’t do a damn thing about it other than foul him.

Ok, we can agree on that. He's huge and can dunk with the authority of Shaq. His FG% is amazing.

More importantly is how bad KU sucked hind tit without him last year. It’s like watching a team without LeBron or Aaron Rodgers. That’s when you see how good they are.

That part I disagree with. The team was flawed. He was absolutely critical to the team. But the team was Swiss cheese. It's not like we were blowing people out at the beginning of the season. They were all very close games. Like LeBron or Rodgers, the team was constructed with a healthy Doke in mind. You can't tell me that the Cavs or the Packers wouldn't win games without LeBron or Rodgers if they were never on the team in the first place.

Dok is amazing I hope we all get to see 40 games of him next year to let it soak in.

I do think Doke is unique, enjoyable to watch, a dedicated Jayhawk, and easy to root for. But I don't want the team constructed around him. He'll go down and it will be curtains.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 03:00 PM

For fun though, I enjoyed watching 14 year old Doke dunk all over a bunch of teenagers.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 02:59 PM

@dylans Shaq's POY year, he averaged 27.6 pts, 14.7 rebounds, and had 140 blocks in 28 games. That's 5 blocks a game! There's just no way Doke comes close to that. You're talking about more than doubling his blocks, points, and rebounds, not to mention doubling assists and steals, and improving FT%. Sorry, I just don't see it.

Doke:

Something nice • May 19, 2019 02:00 PM

@dylans We needed Q's 5 (?) 3s to beat Michigan State. Wofford is Wofford.

Maybe if Doke could shoot FTs significantly better, like magic that isn't going to happen better, Psycho T could be a beatable comp. That really does feel like the only way, because he's just not going to average 22 pts per game the way the game has changed to outside-in, unless he can make FTs.

Something nice • May 19, 2019 12:55 PM

@dylans Doke isn't good against the double team and can't create his shot off the dribble. He's reliant on the team to get his. Dedric could create, but didn't pass and didn't play D. Neither one is a POY candidate.

We were better with Doke for sure. We would have been better with De Sousa as well. We needed a strong big who wasn't afraid to rim protect or play back to basket. But that's needing the role to be filled by someone competent, it's not specifically needing Doke.
