The F-35s flew over my house earlier this afternoon. Anyone going to the game is going to get a real treat pre-game. Rattled the crap out of my windows and scared the bejeezus out of my dog.

Let’s hope they figured out how to land those bad boys!

I was thinking the same thing! Lol. Maybe it’s just that same one cruising around on autopilot still.

KU game Saturday and Neveda. • Sep 18, 2023 12:30 AM

Penalties killed a lot of kid momentum early and again late. KU recovers any of those 5 fumbles and the game feels very different. Ball didn’t bounce KUs way and they still won on the road. I’ll take it!

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 16, 2023 05:52 PM

Illinois hanging with #7 Penn state way better than they did with unranked Kansas.

Targeting • Sep 13, 2023 12:09 AM

@FarmerJayhawk At this point yes. But the premise overall is actually good. The upgrading of equipment, particularly the helmet has allowed players to get increasingly more comfortable using the head and helmet as a weapon rather than an area to be protected.

Locals (especially native Hawaiians) have been asking folks NOT to come to Hawaii for a while, like sense the start of the pandemic. The tourism industry while good for certain sections of the economy, has wreaked havoc on the natural resources of the islands.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 07, 2023 11:11 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Kevs free throws are enough for me to be concerned about his 3% getting any better this year. The touch just does t seem to be there. I feel like good shooters swish the free throws a majority of the time and then on the misses have a soft enough touch for it to fall a good amount of the time. Doesn’t seem that way for kev. Even the males don’t go in clean or soft a good portion of the time. His balance on the free throw line stresses me out. Seems like he’s falling into the lane after every attempt. If he’s thinking that hard about a free throw imagine the wheels turning on the long ball…

Puerto Rico! • Aug 06, 2023 01:38 AM

Oh no. Didn’t watch the game but saw pics of the box score. Did kj make another 3? That would make him 3/4 for the trip so far. Our best shooter from the perimeter by percentage.

4-4 at the free throw line. Could be right.

KJ Adams Discussion • Aug 03, 2023 06:56 PM

@benshawks08 said in KJ Adams Discussion:

@BShark To me it's the 90% of attempts being in the paint that give me the slightest hope that he might have a bit more of a shot than he's shown. The dude played the 5 at 6'7". Why? Because he's who Self trusted the most to play that position. He trusted that KJ wouldn't take outside shots because that wasn't his role. Not because he couldn't make them but because he knew he wasn't supposed to. I heard rumors (maybe it was on here?) that Zuby also had a decent shooting stroke but never showcased it because that wasn't his role.

Every year a player starts after starting the year before, their role expands. It will be interesting to see how KJ's expands. Until I see him shooting 15-25% on a decent volume of shots I will BELIEVE that he can develop as a competent shooter outside of the paint, even if he doesn't become a legit 3 baller.

KJ at the 4. Already a 50% trey baller.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 03, 2023 06:53 PM

Saw Terio had 5 boards. Bill loves a guard that will rebound.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 03, 2023 06:34 PM

@kuballin10 Bill sounded less than enthused with HD's ability to protect the rim at his size. Not to mention his ability in ball screens. Will be interesting to watch.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 03, 2023 06:03 PM

@FarmerJayhawk said in Puerto Rico!:

@kuballin10 man the way Terio looks it’s going to be impossible to keep him off the floor. Juan Terio Kev KJ Hunter to start but honestly Kev would be my backup 4, KJ backup 5. Less Braun, just move everyone up a spot with Timberlake/Elmarko as the 6th man. And shoot Furphy could earn those minutes at the 4 by league play.

Heard Mitch and Teahan talking to the guys on their podcast and it sounds like Self has similar ideas. Mentioned KJ at the 5 if he wanted to switch everything. Mitch was talking about how hard it would be for an opposing team to score on Juan, Terio, Elmarko, Kev, and KJ. Speed and hands everywhere.

And then we have these discussions • Aug 01, 2023 08:29 PM

With the 16 you could have a fairly decent East/West Conference split with AZ, ASU, BYU, Colorado, Tech, TCU, Baylor, Houston in the West and Ok St, KSU, KU, ISU, WVU, Cinn, Uconn, UCF in the East. I know Houston is technically east of a few of the more northern schools but figured you'd keep all of Texas together for potential rivalries and travel sake.

Or you could do 4 pods with a Far West (Zonas, BYU, and CO), Texas (Tech, TCU, Baylor, Houston), Midwest (OKSt, KU, KSU, ISU), East (WVU, Cinn., UConn, UCF).

Could be fun. For basketball, home and home with your pod and alternating home away every season with the rest.

For football, always play your pod and then a rotating schedule of the other sections.

@dylans or “Huggins Retires…?”

Celebrity Encounters at KU • Jul 13, 2023 11:57 PM

@kjayhawks I only ever commented on my experience which does happen to be in inner city Austin. But I also know that the way school works is teachers give grades and that is one power that hasn’t been taken from them. The best ones assess the knowledge and skills of their students to the best of their abilities. Some give grades so they don’t have to deal with helicopter parents. Some do it because a kids only joy on life is playing a sport and think that one grade that one grading period isn’t worth the risk of that kid dropping out or worse. Some do it because they are afraid of their principals. Others because they know deep down they didn’t give that kid their best effort. And you are right, I can only speak to the experience I’ve had working with thousands of teachers as a teacher and a district employee who supports teachers. I’m sure someone somewhere has told a teacher they have to pass a kid but I also know that teacher almost definitely had training that taught them that was wrong and there were other options.

Celebrity Encounters at KU • Jul 13, 2023 08:06 PM

Could be argued that the softest generation is the one who seems to be incapable of letting go of both financial and political power despite clearly running politics and the planet into the ground.

Celebrity Encounters at KU • Jul 13, 2023 05:00 PM

@kjayhawks been in education for 16 years and never been told I can’t fail a kid. Now there’s a legitimate question to be asked about what a teacher did to attempt to support a kid. But every teacher I’ve met who says they aren’t allowed to fail kids have not been telling the full truth. They may have been strongly encouraged to give the kid more opportunities to show growth or held accountable for parts of their job as a teacher that they may not have done for that kid. But when push comes to shove, one person is allowed to put that grade on the report card and sign off on its validity. And if an admin told me I HAD to pass a kid or else I lose my job, well then there’s a good time to ask for that in writing for evidence down the road. That’s where teachers unions are actually a good thing.

Miami looking to lose their final 4 teams, the Panthers most likely and hopefully the Heat tonight. Good for that city, but tough to go 0-4 where the spotlight is shining brightest.

Didn’t the Avalanche just win a title too? Maybe it’s Denver not Miami.

I don't think our guys will take kindly to him going to TCU. Thanks for the motivation- good luck...you'll need it, Ernest!

An ugly topic: Bill Self’s health • May 31, 2023 05:57 PM

@rockchalkjayhawk Health issues never seemed to hurt K in his recruiting. Now that Self is pretty much the undisputed best active coach, I imagine it will be the same for a while.

@BShark you talking about this? ?s=46&t=PfvO214bW1XkHtm9eUlx9A

Kevin McCullar is returning!! • May 25, 2023 05:05 PM

@Jethro The ABSOLUTELY best thing about kev coming back is his versatility. Him being able to go 2-4 allows self to play with the rest of the line up and find what will actually work. Maybe multiple lineups that work. With so many new guys and unknowns it is such a luxury knowing you can fill any one of 3 positions with one guy and know it’s at the very least, handled.

@DanR said in Off-season starting lineup ever changing thread:

It's gonna be Juan, Kev, KJ, Hunter and who cares

Edit: + whoever can rebound

Think it’s gonna be tough to get any of those 4 out of the starting line up.

Juan, Kev, and KJ could make the all bill self team for guys that “get it” whatever “it” is that makes self want to play guys.

Those guys with an actual big behind them that will allow them to be more aggressive guarding the ball and getting into passing lanes is going to be fun and create a fair bit of its own offense even if they can’t shoot.

Kevin McCullar is returning!! • May 25, 2023 12:40 AM

@BShark I could see Juan jumping to the 13-15 range. What were his numbers the last third of the year? Probably close to that.

2023 Transfer Portal • May 18, 2023 08:49 PM

@jayballer67 For me, if you couldn't make it on the floor with last year's bench, you might no be a power five level player. We were successful last year solely based on the strength of our starters.

2023 Transfer Portal • May 18, 2023 06:01 PM

@BShark But like, how? No offense to Cuffe. Seemed like a great kid when I heard him in some interviews. Wish him all the best. But how is there any idea what his impact could be on a program like Syracuse? Are they that bad that a totally unproven addition makes them better?

2023 Transfer Portal • May 18, 2023 05:12 PM

Cuffe to Syracuse. Didn't see that coming!

Gradey Dick • May 18, 2023 01:58 PM

@Gorilla72 This is generally a good sign, right? Doesn't it imply he doesn't really need to do anymore to impress anyone because his draft stock is pretty safely in the range he would like?
