May have to pick up my HBO subscription again soon to check out White Lotus. I've watched the first two seasons. They were great. The season 2 cast was fantastic.

Season 1, I mean (close your ears @Crimsonorblue22 ), Alexandra Daddario alone makes the series a winner!

I'd consider drafting someone to go with X and Rice. Could be a NASTY wr group.

I am hoping they draft an RB in the first three or four rounds.

Welcome the the Kansas City Chiefs offseason thread!

Lots of potential turnover, so maybe a good idea to have a dedicated thread.

Saw this on another site. Free agents...

Exclusive rights free agents (ERFAs)

These players have fewer than three accrued seasons in the league. The Chiefs can retain their rights for 2025 by tendering them a one-year NFL minimum contract for the coming season. Most ERFA players are offered (and sign) these contracts.

OL Mike Caliendo
P Matt Araiza

Restricted free agents (RFAs)

These players have accumulated three accrued seasons in the league. While these players can negotiate and sign with any team, the Chiefs team can offer them a contract tender that comes with the right of first refusal and/or draft-pick compensation should they sign elsewhere.

TE Peyton Hendershot
CB Nazeeh Johnson
CB Keith Taylor
DE Malik Herring
LB Jack Cochrane

Unrestricted free agents (UFAs)

These players have four or more accrued NFL seasons. All are free to negotiate and sign with any team. Some will be re-signed to new Chiefs contracts. Others will be allowed to seek better deals with other teams — and if history is any guide, some of them will later be re-signed if they are unable to find work elsewhere. And some will never again wear a Kansas City uniform.

QB Carson Wentz
G Trey Smith
T D.J. Humphries
RB Kareem Hunt
RB Samaje Perine
TE Jody Fortson
WR Marquise Brown
WR Mecole Hardman
WR DeAndre Hopkins
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
WR Justin Watson
S Justin Reid
LB Nick Bolton
DE Charles Omenihu
DE Joshua Uche
DT Derrick Nnadi
DT Mike Pennel
DT Marlon Tuipulotu
DT Tershawn Wharton

Yup. That sums it up. Won and lost in the trenches. The Chiefs O line is top notch in 4 of 5 spots. Then moving Thuney outside brought some chaos. Protect Mahomes!

Why this is a lovely thread!

Lots of anger seeping over between KState and the Chiefs this weekend.

Super Bowl • Feb 10, 2025 03:30 AM

Yea, the O line could see big changes next season.

A few are upcoming free agents? So, hoping changes for the better. Mahomes had some happy feet this season. Sucks. Dudes like him don’t come around often. Invest capital to let him shine.

Speaking of Tiller, does anyone know whether Tiller practices with team already? I don't see any improvement watching the bigs play. I'm afraid BS is preparing Tiller for next season, instead. LOL.. High-low v22.0.

From a few weeks ago:

KU coach Bill Self said on Monday on his “Hawk Talk” radio show that Tiller has only been working in individual drills so far, but he’s just a few days away now from getting checked out by physicians and having a chance to become a full member of KU’s scout team.

Watching dudes fly by AJ Storr today was a joy. I heard this guy was an athlete!

That of course left Hunter to blissfully watch the ball float in the air and forget to play defense of any kind. What an embarrassment of effort today.

Zeke really makes my head spin at times. For one, he simply could not get a decent shot off today. The sheep lovers made sure of that. Shouldn't that mean somebody else (Hunter) should be open??? OH, and Zeke is NOT a point guard.

Miserable feeling losing to that team. aaargh.

Quad 3

4-0

Quad 4 (bad losses)

2025 Schedule • Feb 04, 2025 08:39 PM

Every year when either the Chiefs or KU football skeds come out, i do the same...predict the W-Ls without much to back it up.

I also went with 6-6. I just want a freaking bowl game, please.

@rockchalkjayhawk yeah I think a lot of it is effort. The second half in Waco several of our guys were low energy. Particularly noticeable with Zeke.

We all love us some Zeke, but he seemed like he was on drugs or something last night. He took some shots that were kinda wrong time, wrong place -- way too early in the shot clock when we need to run some time off, or quite a distance from the hoops. He seemed off last night.

It's really quite funny... This year the computers say we are good and the fans are grumpy and saying we suck. Quite inverted from some recent years and I think a lot of it is KJ and Juan fatigue. This is a top 7 team on Kenpom. The way they lost to Houston and Baylor obviously leaves a sour taste...

Here’s the kicker…

I think we can beat any team out there, but also lose to many. Weird year. I’m hoping we settle into some rotations and see some consistent growth.

I'm gonna have to check out American Primeval. Always looking for a new show (and of course loved Deadwood). Swearengen, (insert profanity here)!

Also, I started watching Resident Alien for some comic relief.

Fun show. Easy on the brain.

There some pretty shocking numbers in here.

Score

2nd half KU 30 BU 60

Final BU 81 KU 70

Rebounds

BU 40 KU 27

And the usual in defeats … FTs

KU 12-19

BU 25-28

I think it is falling apart and it could go either way. There is a chemistry problem that Self seems to be in the middle of, and it could get worse.

The problem is what's the problem? team chemistry?

You're elated when we're up 19 points after the first half. The chemistry was good?

And then you're deflated when the team loses by 30 POINTS in the second half. The chemistry was bad?

Jekyll or Hyde? Happy or sad? I know chemical reactions can be instant, but just weird.

And I just want to reemphasize that we LOST BY 30 POINTS in the 2nd half. wowzers. Doesn't even seem possible.

Feel free to chime in if you want. We could all use a distraction i'm sure!

Well, that was historic.

If you paid close attention, things went south pretty quickly at the 30-12 mark, mostly.

We really had some dreadfully bad possessions from there to the end. Insanely idiotic and self inflicted turnovers. Stupidity. Keep it simple and don’t turn it over and build your lead. Or hold onto it.

Nope.

Jayhawks in the pros • Jan 31, 2025 08:59 PM

Hey, surprise surprise.

Looks like Kevin McCullar made his debut finally. G League appearance. Good for him and his mysterious knee. I hope that is a thing of the past.

The way the season has been going, I was just waiting for us to foul a 3 pt shooter there.

Not unprecedented with this bunch.

But probably the right call. Would not have surprised me if they said he was shooting. All players play up the drama in those situations.

Anybody know why Shak didn’t get any run in the second half? That was weird.

He messes up the offensive plays constantly. He was also bad last night in general. Bill be unwilling to go to him or AJ is probably why we saw that 3 big crap in hindsight.

Not sure which is more frustrating, watching shak and AJ blow up an offensive set by being in the wrong spot or diggy on d just wave exuberantly as he is either significantly out of position or in a ridiculous mismatch. Diggy was the main reason that dude went for 30. Everyone had to help him so much.

poor Diggy. he's got just the one job though. shoot. i don't expect any more of him.

Anybody know why Shak didn’t get any run in the second half? That was weird.

Speaking of weird, just about everything else in that game qualifies.

Playing time, rotations, passing ability, defense, coaching. Challenging times.

It was obviously rough without Dajuan. Let the debate return to how many minutes he plays, and not about him starting.

This is an awkward, uncoordinated team (it’s difficult to watch Rylan do anything but shoot). We need more guys who can actually dribble the ball without falling on their face.

Having only watched Storr while at KU…he seems better suited to be an open court player. Not a lot if that happening at KU this year. May actually be a better pro? Ha.

Got a chuckle out if the fastest hook ever when Self pulled Passmoore!

Jeez, we won but I still feel trodden upon.

Maybe we should play Duke every game.

But, we won without a starter and a half.

Feeling the Fieldhouse magic? • Jan 26, 2025 07:02 PM

Fun (or not so fun) with the box score!

But a preamble: OK, so most of us are steamed that we crapped the bed yesterday. Shoulda coulda woulda i guess doesn't count in the standings. I'm really just upset in the way we lost. tragic.

Onward to box score entertainment...really not a ton of stand out stats this game.

Players

4-20

Combined FG attempts for LJ Cryer and Emanuel Sharp. That is a startling stat that should have meant game over for Houston. We let some guy named Mylik Wilson go for 18 points. Same guy that has had 4, 7, 0, and 7 points in his latest outings.

Team FG attempts

KU 30-66

Houston 35-73

Advantage Houston in both.

The rest of the shooting stats are similar.

Blocks

Bidunga -- 0

KU -- 0

Houston -- 5

Odd that Flory was block free.

Minutes played

Dajuan Harris -- 46

Shakeel Moore -- 19

This really makes zero sense. Is Self limiting his minutes for injury? Personal observation: It sucks that Harris missed those free throws to ice the game, but that really was his main blunder on the day. He did let his man drive by him uncontested a few times. Both teams had starters play about the same minutes, and bench players. Eight guys.

Feeling the Fieldhouse magic? • Jan 26, 2025 05:31 AM

Upon further review, that was so much more than a loss. It was a Greek tragedy.

Feeling the Fieldhouse magic? • Jan 26, 2025 02:20 AM

If you'd have told me before the game that we held Cryer and Sharp to 17 total points, i would have thought easy win. sigh.

Feeling the Fieldhouse magic? • Jan 25, 2025 05:43 PM

Picking this game is a tough one. I don’t feel too confident in a win, but it’s possible. The Jayhawks are a bit more unpredictable this season than in years past.

If we get in a hole today after a typical slow start, a think a comeback will be more difficult.

I do think Hunter can excel in this game. Bidunga, too.

If either goes off, I say we win 70-67.

If not, I think there will be too much defensive pressure on Zeke to pull this one off.

@Jhawk69 said in Big Ern’s Frogs meet The Bidunga Bunch — Game Thread:

@kjayhawks I would like to play 4 guards, especially if AJ has turned a corner. My only concern would be that this team has practiced 3 guards all year

Doesn’t seem like practicing three guards is a real thing? We switch just about everything on defense. Same. KJ plays and defends on the perimeter. Same. Sometimes run the weave. Same. Ok maybe not so much the weave anymore! What would the difference be?

Either way I’m fine with four guards or non bigs.

I think we ran some great sets against the horny toads. Toss it inside, Hunter kicks it out to a shooter. Perfect. The way it should be. We got a bit lucky when Shak made his shots. Not so lucky when Dickinson has no choice but to kick out to Dajuan.

I don’t think there a perfect answer this year with personnel, as Self won’t change playing his favs. But I’d love to have a true shooter on the floor next to Zeke.

That kick out offense is ideal for Hunter both as a passer and post up player. More!

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I FREAKING LOVED that Hunter held on to that jump ball! Love to see him get fired up.

Dajuan is 100 percent awful today. Bad bad.

Btw, this TCU team has been described as offensively challenged.

I’d like to revise my score projection…

Hunt isn't as aggressive as he should be getting his shots at the rim. The 3 ball, midrange and short floaters are a big part of his offense. I'll have to see if there's numbers of that to back it up.

Edit, found the stats.

Hunter only gets 37% of his shots at the rim and shoots 67% at the rim for a 7'2 guy. 50% of his shots are 2 pt jumpers, the other 12% are 3's. His shot distribution is out of whack for a guy his size. Self should be correcting this with his scheme that's built around Hunter.

Seems pretty simple to me! Build a scheme around Hunter. 100% agree. Dude can score with ease when he has some space.

Question to everyone: when you have stoic players, like Hunter, who don’t know how to express enthusiasm, does that make our entire team more stiff and less confident on their shots?

I believe the answer is yes.

I don’t know what is in Hunter’s heart. I suspect he feels enthusiasm but has a hard time expressing it. Maybe some of his teammates can help him with that. Could be a very fun thing to practice and I feel sure would help lift the team and promote confidence!

Hunter? Stoic? Not sure you're looking at the same Hunter as the rest of the world.

Hunter is well known for trying to get under the skin of his opponents, being very vocal and opinionated, and for his cheap shots.

Not sure stoic is the word here.
