@HawkChamp Right. But that's because his OLD strategy of trying to win every game instead of developing the best players during the season.
@nuleafjhawk In the past, I would agree. I liked Lucas over Diallo (who couldn't be in position on an inbounds play to save his life). Where'd that get us in the tourney? Loserville.
I'm liking this new coach who lets players screw up in real time and lose games. The Big 12 is meaningless. Final fours and championships are the goal.
Play the best players.
@nuleafjhawk sarcasm? people have been screaming for this for years: Let players play through their issues and learn during games when it counts.
This new and improved Hall of Fame coach Self probably would have benched Brady and played EJ more.
Great move by Self. Let a guy play through his issues. Let him know you have confidence in him, so he can be in the game at the end of a close game in the tourney.
Must have been tough for Self. This is literally the first game I've seen him not try to win at all cost for the greater good of the season.
Lesson for doke, period
Zion is 6-6 and weighs 272 lbs ?
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict he blows a knee before ever playing a game at Duke.
Quick thought: I thought we'd win by 20
Longer thought: I'm happy with the way the team didn't quit, so it's a better win than a 20-point win
Every time it chimes, she'll be reminded of you. A lot of pressure.
As always, nice photo compilation @wrwlumpy. I thought, my golly, why would every player not want to go to this magical place until I got to the final pictures (of the coach). Oh, right.
Stateβs Big 12 college basketball coaches heading in opposite directions stay on course
Real headline from Sunday, LOL. (Good column though β)
Devonte and Svi get us the lead at the 12 minute mark, but the 12:00 to 8:00 minute stretch is where the other team always comes back. Happened in both halves today.

Devonte and Svi are supposed to shoot us into leads around 12-8 minutes to go,
Brown was still phoggy in the post game interview.... Q: why did you walk it up the court. A: I dunno. Q: why didn't you pass it to Wade? A: I dunno.
Hmm. I hadn't seen those younger photos of Mamie Eisenhower before.
The red blue puke never dies. Love this team, High maj. 25+ threes per game.
Dave? Dave?
Seems to me the situation must be more complicated than Billy and his Mom(s) either unknowingly or intentionally breaking some NCAA rule. If that was the case, it would have been settled in one day. They aren't stupid, and KU wouldn't have wasted time on it. If it turns out that his Mom's partner bought the car, I can see how it could fall into a gray area of rules interpretation for the NCAA, particularly if Billy and his Mom didn't think they'd need to include compliance/financial stuff about her partner up front. So that could be the issue (and would make sense with the "personal lives" stuff she tweeted about). Would also make sense why it took so long to establish her relationship with Billy. Kind of hate to speculate, but why not? Everyone else has.
Clearly at this point, if Billy and his mom had been "caught" bamboozling KU or the NCAA he'd be LONG gone, so the fact that it's dragged on beyond last semester is a positive sign to me.
@mayjay Right. In this case, there were two solid parents who, by all accounts, worked damn hard to get him to where he is today, so the family bashing seems particularly ugly, IMO. Maybe they aren't doctors or engineers, but they make an honest living, ffs.
OK. After re-reading it, this thread is pretty disgusting. I'm out.
eta: not directed at your most recent comment, @mayjay
We don't have a high to go with the low, so there's not a back up option on offense. Like I said: hit 3 or 4 more three pointers (still way below average) and no one is talking about coaching strategy. Could have been beaten at every other aspect of the game as we were and it would still have been a win.
I'm not throwing in the towel on this season yet. I hope the Preston situation gets resolved one way or another soon and Self can figure out a defensive strategy that fits this team.
Hit 3 or 4 more threes last night at pretty much any point of the game and it's a win. This is just the team a lot of people have been wanting for the past 5 years. Fools gold/Iowa state kind of team.
I'm shocked she (and Billy) stayed silent this long, so I'm way more on her side than the rest of you, I guess.
Pretty hard to believe we're going to put a championship team together in January.
4 losses
everyone freaks out after the first three losses, then the rest of conference collapses on itself like usual once they they play their home game against KU. Then we lose one more weird one that doesn't matter. AND CRUISE TO THE FINAL 4, BAYBEE.
Below 5 is getting down there a bit, IMO. If you lived to ask about it (and know where your testicles are), you can probably handle it.
I ran today in Lawrence at 10 degrees, and it felt pretty good, but there was barely any wind and I wore gloves, ear protection, nylon sweat pants and an old school gray cotton hoodie. I wouldn't wear anything but running shoes though no matter how thin they are.
Look for a treadmill on craigslist. There will be a bunch for sale really cheap in about a month!
Diallo had ZERO clue where to be on the floor on the offensive end, and it screwed up the entire team. Hence, the players voted to start Landon instead. Hopefully De Sousa can learn how to set a screen and at least run a couple in-bound plays.
Thanks @approxinfinity for managing the site! Merry Rock Chalk Christmas everyone.
@kjayhawks I'm guessing he wasn't just your wife's dog. 15 years is a long time with a pup. We had to put down our little companion a couple months ago. Sorry, man. It sucks having to let them go.
@drgnslayr Syracuse Orange?
I'll take Walton over Dakich any day. Dakich just comes across as a know-it-all prick.
Walton is far more positive in his commentary and he actually stops talking once in a while, probably to take a bong hit.
He looked pretty good tonight. Very active running the floor. Weirdly, I can't think of any past Jayhawk to compare him to or really what his role can be on the team*... definitely brings energy. Should be a good defender. Three point shot looked pure. Could probably slide in for Vick for minutes if he figures out how to pass the ball.
*This Team desperately needs a slasher, so if he can do that, he'll be a good option in the toolbox.
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm not giving up on him yet! He's been a great guy around Lawrence, and I actually like what he describes during play by play, just the canned "sportscaster" voice bugs me. Wish he'd just talk, but that'll probably come when when he's more comfortable.
I laughed at that. Benetti was actually pretty good. Only reason I kept the volume turned on.
(still miss Steve Stone as a cub guy though)
@DoubleDD Making thousands? UR doing it wrong.
Bob kind of had a more impatient/bitter edge to his broadcast once Max retired. Thought I would miss him more. I'm still trying to get enthused about Hanni, but it's probably not going to happen.
looked like a burn after too much golf... or a BB scuffed it
@wrwlumpy crash or no crash, great collection as always. Thx! I especially love the one where the gorilla is observing the humans at the zoo.
Not all parents are a problem... should we do a "good baggage" list too? Starting with Angel Morris.
Kief/Marcus
Perry
Tyler
Evan
Brady
Where/who is Billy's Dad? He has two moms.
@Crimsonorblue22 My wife found this thing a couple weeks ago and it seems like she's going to stick around.

I'm not sure what that one eye is looking at.
@wrwlumpy great photo collection, as always!
My late pup in Lincoln on the first morning of a 12 day trip to the Oregon coast.
I'm related to Hillary Swank by marriage. Her uncle is a really nice guy and he claims she's a genuinely good human.
OK... time to turn it around and beat up on some huskers.
I hate the sprint center (for everything), so I vote for a high school gym in Maui too.
Mitch had ZERO fouls in 18 minutes and Doke only had two in 22 minutes. I know everyone is terrified of those guys fouling out, but come on, that layup exhibition by ASU was ridiculous.

Those 3 speedy ASU guards latched onto something of a free pass yesterday when they roared down the chute like Frank Mason. No one to send them a memorable hit.
Hey @wissox To get to a faster per mile average, you might try alternating running/walking a day or two a week -- run one mile at your target pace then walk a half/quarter mile then run another fast mile etc. to get used to what a 8 or 9 minute pace feels like.
I run about 25 miles a week... 3.5 per day, plus one longer run of 5 or 6 miles. Total amateur. Been doing that pretty steadily for the past 25 years trying to lose 15 pounds. Thanks to my deep passionate love of craft beer, I haven't lost the 15 pounds yet, but I haven't gained any either. LOL. My pace is about 8:30/mile these days. I'm 52. Not training for anything other than an occasional charity 5K. I sit at a computer all day and just feel better after a run and some fresh air.
I started using Runkeeper on my phone a few months ago, and I can see how those things can kind of make you compete against yourself a bit.
Get good shoes but don't keep wearing them once they're shot or your old joints will regret it!
outstanding job, @wrwlumpy
Hmm. I can do the finger W thing with my fretting left hand but not my pickin' right.
Interesting hair seems to be a theme with Syracuse folks.
Only been through there once, but I love that part of NY.
Good work as always, @wrwlumpy !
@JayHawkFanToo I lived in Youngstown for four years. TOP THAT.
I'd be thrilled with the baseball rule... but not many people follow college baseball.
Harbaugh is from Ohio. Never knew that. Heh Heh.
I kind of like it as "Chorfs" but we could change it to Chefs and I'd be OK with that too
