The fairy tale is over. Amazing season for the Ramblers.

Most rankings had him as a 4 Star ranked anywhere between 30-40, so likely not a McDonald All-American.
KU 83-77.
I don’t believe De Sousa is a McDonald All-American.

I am plenty busy trying to keep up with all the new posts...
The Big 12 page for this season appears top be down but here is a snippet from last year. Look at the West Virginia players, they are all in Sport Management; is this the equivalent of what UNC had for athletes? 2 of the 3 KU players getting Masters Degrees.

I purposefully used the Conference and not the overall record; it is a better number to compare since it is built against the same conference teams whereas the overall record can be padded against weaker competition.
Keep in mind that back then other schools like K-State with Hartman, Missouri with Stewart, OSU with Sutton and even ISU at times, had well above average programs. A lot less margin of error with only 8 teams in the Conference. Also, you forget that in the '70s and '80s as few as 25 teams participated in the Tournament and it was only 1985 when the tournament was expanded to 64 teams and a lot more programs became eligible. KU teams that missed the tournament in those years would have likely made it under the current format
You named Jo Jo and Valentine but KU did not routinely have several elite players at the same time and the supporting cast for the players you mention was at times not that good. Also If not for JoJo's shot being voided, KU could have had another trip to the Final Four which would make 3 for Owens and potentially a National Championship when it lost to UTEP in the Elite 8.
Like I said, it is difficult to compare teams and programs from different eras considering how much the college basketball landscape and the game itself have changed in the last 40-50 years and comparisons are really moot.
And here are some interesting Conference stats which will surprise many of you...
- Kansas has punched its ticket to the Final Four, marking the Big 12’s ninth appearance since inception. The Conference has played in 11 Final Four games (4-7) with a national championship by the Jayhawks in 2008.
- The Big 12 is the only conference in 2017-18 to place a team in the CFP national semifinals (Oklahoma) and the Final Four (Kansas).
- The 12 wins by the Big 12 in this year’s NCAA Championship are tied for the most of any conference (ACC).
- For the third season in Big 12 history and the first time with a 10-member league, three teams played in the Elite Eight with Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech. Other seasons with three Elite Eight teams include 2002 and 2003.
- The Big 12 has placed at least two teams in the regional fi
nals in six of the past 1 NCAA Championships, including this season (2008, ‘09, ‘10, ‘12, ‘16, ‘18). Thirteen times in the last 16 years at least one conference squad has advanced to the Elite Eight. - The Big 12 has had 25 regional finalists in the past 16 years - the most of any conference during that span.
- Big 12 men’s basketball led the nation with 40 percent of its teams advancing to the Regional semifinals. Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech and West Virginia danced to the Sweet 16 as the Big 12 made up one-fourth of the field.
- This season marked just the second time in Conference history for four teams to advance to the Sweet 16 with the first occurring in 2002 when the league had 12 teams.
- For the third-consecutive season and the eighth time overall, the Big 12 had at least three teams in the Regional semifinals. The Big 12 has had at least one Sweet 16 team in all but one year in Conference history, with multiple teams 15 times.
- The Big 12 has 10 appearances in the Regional semifinals since the 2016 tournament, one less than the top spot of 11. Seventy percent of Big 12 teams have advanced to a Sweet 16 within the last three seasons - Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and West Virginia.
- For the first time in Conference history, the Big 12 sent 90 percent of its men’s basketball teams to postseason play with seven in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship and two in the National Invitation Tournament.
- The Big 12 is the first league since at least 1996-97 to accomplish the feat of 90 percent of its teams in postseason.
- The Big 12 led the nation with 70 percent of teams in the NCAA Championship. It marked the fifth time (2010, 2014, 2015, 2016) in Conference history that the league had seven NCAA bids and the fourth since the Big 12 became a 10-member league in 2011-12.
I thought you would enjoy it knowing how clueless the so called "experts" have been and still are...

More importantly, what will Bilas have to say now that his narrative is toast?
Again, you are comparing different eras. In the '70s very few programs played in sold out arenas and basketball was not as big as it is today, not even close. Chuck Taylors and not Nike or Adidas ruled the day and money was tinny and many schools were not even integrated.
Do you know what Eddy Sutton,(who someone just indicated Coach Self should consult with) conference record was? 63%...or worse than Ted Owens.
When you are comparing two different eras in sports you are comparing apples and oranges.
UK fans are starting to get tired of Cal's OAD approach that for all the talent is has brought it has not allowed the fans to follow or become familiar with players and has resulted in only one Title and a humiliating loss to Bobby Mo in the NIT.
...and that is why he was let go. His overall record at a KU is 348–182 or 66% and his conference record is 170–96 or 64% not earth shattering but not bad and at a time when the Big 8 was very competitive and basketball was not the business it is now. He also has 2 Final Four and 1 Elite 8. You cannot use today's standards for events/records that are 40 years old.
I don't understand why some fans think KU became relevant only after Larry Brown. KU has been relevant ever since James Naismith...who by the way has much worse record than Ted Owens.
...and left KU on probation...and UCLA...and SMU...Dude is a walking violation. If not for Larry Brown, KU's record streak of NCAA appearances would be even longer. The violations at KU turned out to be considerably more serious than what we were told at the time and KU came within a whisker of getting the death penalty.
BTW, KU did not suck before Larry Brown, it might not have been a top 3 or top 5 program but still pretty good except for a couple of of off years.
KU played extremely poorly that game. Graham 3 points, Svi,. 8 point, Malik 8 points. KU shot 25% from 3 on only 20 attempts and 4-8 FTs.
The players are greatly improved and no way we see a game with those numbers again. KU has seen all kinds of zones since then and none had similar results.
Compared to Dotson and Grimes, Big Dave looks...well...big, really, really big.
I though he was talking about Vick, but he really did no have any run-ins with the Police either, only with his girlfriend (he said/she said) and I seem to remember that was handled internally by KU.

Doke has to watch dropping his shoulder, or using a hook on his pivots.
I agree. The hooking in particular is a recent development that I am sure the coaching staff is working on eliminating.
He seems to follow KU quite a bit. He has been to the other schools with whom he has ties but he seems to be around KU a lot more. I have even seen pictures of him with Coach Self during recruiting trips
At this time, most people seem to have forgotten his numerous transgressions and see him as harmless or even as a positive to the program because of his NBA ties. He is likely not in a position to harm the program.
If Nova’s game plan is to stop Malik, then Devonte or Svi or even Vick might go off for 30 points. Every KU players is capable of going off and scoring 20+ in any given game.
KU’s ace in the hole is Doke, Nova has really no one that can match up with him and if they try to double team him it will open the outside to the KU gunners. KU might be the worst possible matchup for Nova.
Duke fans are just upset because it is usually Duke doing the “robbing.”
Perhaps you should have looked for Jontay Porter; he is considereda first round pick while his brother is a top 5 pick.
Are you talking about Svi shutting down Bagley of Duke? If that is the case, Svi is really 6'-8" and Bagley 6'-11"...and Svi can jump a lot higher than 3 inches; 10 rebounds against Duke would vouch for that.
I believe Robinson decide after the first week of Summer school that he really did not want to go to college and this is why he did not pursued it further.
They actually have better words for KU in the Villanova section.
“Prediction: These two teams really mirror each other. Udoka Azubuike is a nightmare to chase around and he’s the kind of guy who can cause Villanova problems. Kansas has great shooting and won’t back down, and Bill Self is a great coach. But I’m taking Villanova. If it’s not enough, they have a Hall of Fame coach in Jay Wright and a storied program. Everyone in their organization is bought in and invested.”
And this is why a Yahoo keeps losing money and is close to being a memory, a bad one for investors.
Isn’t Vince McMahon of wrestling starting a new league? He can play there and have “Y’all hate me” on the back of his jersey.
Recovery tends to be much quicker nowadays. In the late ‘80s I had arthroscopic surgery on my left shoulder and it was taped in place for a month and took months of physical therapy to get it back to normal. A few years ago I had considerably more involved arthroscopic surgery on my right shoulder and my surgeon told me to start excercising as soon as it was comfortable and in a few week it was back to normal. Hopefully your recovery is as fast as mine was.
USA Today picking KU over Nova ↗ and then losing to the winner on the left side of the bracket.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Coach K is 71 and with several health issues ↗. I think he will retire in the next 3-5 years or sooner if he gets another NCAA Title or the health issues force him.
Capel did well at VCU and not that good at OU, much like Smart. Capel taking the Pitt job means he was not in line to take over the Duke program after Coach K retires.
KU is well represented with 3 players, only Duke with 4 has more. Below is the official roster although several of the players listed as undecided have selected teams, Zion to Duke, Quinerly to Nova, Moses Brown to UCLA; Jordan Brown and Montogomery still undecided.
FWIW, Sagarin and Massey have Villanova in a close game; I don’t have access to Pomeroy’s prediction.
Maryland left the ACC to get away from Duke and UNC and thought it could become top dog in the Big 10 but looks like it cannot decide whether it wants to be a football or basketball school. It does have big funding from Under Armour whose founder played football there.
Is it just me or did it look at the half time interview that Coach K had a red bruise under his right eye?
Here is an interesting look at 3 of the major computer rankings after the weekend games.
Ken Pomeroy ↗ - Villanova #1, Michigan #7, KU #8 and Loyola #30. He still has teams like Virginia, Duke...yes, Duke at #3, Cincinnati, Purdue and Michigan State ahead of KU. Difficult to look at the rankings with straight face and say they are correct.

Jeff Sagarin ↗ - Villanova #1, Duke #2, Kansas # 3 and Loyola checks in at #56. Duke is still #2 which seems counter intuitive given KU's win yesterday.

Unfortunately the on-line vote accounts for only 5% ↗ of the overall vote.
The experience he got playing in Europe against grown men probably helped.
Correct. I posted all the number yesterday after the game. 15 behind as of today and could got to 13. I believe UNC is now 20 games behind after being in front of KU for a long time. Coach Self sure has moved the needle in the right direction.
Bagley was unimpressive; probably costed him a couple of spots in the draft and Millions of $.
Retired, I would not mind him coming out of retirement and referee KU's third title; he is KU's lucky charm.
Sounds like Big Dave has moved up since picking KU.
Yes, I believe it helps with Langford. Vick situation depends on whether he is projected to be drafted. He started hot but has waned quite a bit.
