@HawkChamp

In past games against MSU, the teams seemed to give the game away after being in control. This team does not give away close games, this team wins close games. KU by double digits.

@drgnslayr

It would not be that complicated to write a short program that goes on a loop, resets the IP, reads the Capcha, and duplicates it and votes for Mason. I woould include a random time generator so the votes don't come at set intervals and can be tracked. The vote counts only for a third so even if Mason Is 10% Down it can be easily compensated by the other components of the vote

BIPOY and the Hawks vs Donkeys Game Thread • Mar 18, 2017 02:06 AM

@wissox

Did we watch the same play? It was WSU shot that did not hit the rim and should have been a shot clock violation, instead they called a foul on Dayton on the rebound; terrible call at critical time...even the announcers indicated it was a bad call.

I watched both games on two big screens and WSU got a whole lot a favorable calls. Marshall can complain all he wants about the seeding but he cannot complain about the refereeing since it clearly favored WSU.

Lots of guests so I can't really post much.

WSU getting all the call against Dayton and still two points down.

A lot of the so called shoe wars are based on comment made by Pitino, but taken grossly out of context, when you read the entire comments and not one sentence in isolation.

I believe I posted the entire statement for your benefit before and Pitino clearly and explicitly says that shoe brands are a non factor.

The great Willie Mosconi is quoted as saying...a good pool player with a broom stick will beat an average player with a Balabushka...likewise in basketball...a great coach with good players on Chuck Taylors will beat an average coach with better players on Nikes...up to a point, of course.

@Texas-Hawk-10

Player commit touch fouls without making a play for the ball all the time at the end of games and it is rarely called a flagrant. No doubt it was a foul but I don't believe it should have been called a flagrant, at least not at that point in the game.

Why are we even talking about Marshall? Don't we have better things to talk...like the upcoming game in less than 2 hours.

@Texas-Hawk-10

I was replying in general terms and based on the tenor of the thread. I did not mean to imply you personally called him a...Brannen Greene move.

Day 2 Tournament Thread • Mar 17, 2017 08:49 PM

@Blown

Some of the post game analyst, including a NCAA official, are saying that he pushed him hard and the call was warranted. I disagree. If he pushed hard he would had fallen towards the sideline but the replay clearly shows he tried to hold him and he tripped and fell towards the basket. Sure it was a foul but no way it was flagrant as the game announcers pretty much said at the time.

@BShark

I will not name names but you can read some of the comments above.

@Crimsonorblue22

Yes, it was a leaked video someone recorded at a booster event where comments were supposed to be off the record.

Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 17, 2017 08:35 PM

@mayjay

But...the individuals in question were not on campus or under any control of the university or in any shool sponsored function and they were not acting as students or school representatives but as private individual at a private, off campus location. It would seem like a huge overreach to apply Title IX to apply under these circumstances.

If this applies, where does it stop? How about a guy and a girl that don't know each other get into an argument at a bar at the Power and Light district in KCMO and later they find out they both attend KU, should a Title IX apply? How about if they attend different schools?

It would seem to me that this starts a slippery slope of government overreach and intrusion into private affairs by forcing a school or schools to intervene where the local law agencies would be the logical recourse.

It appears to me that the girl that started the entire episode is desperately trying to justify her own misguided actions born out of jealousy and extend her 15 minutes of fame and her angle appears to be leverage against future millionaire Josh Jackson and wants to use the school to further her personal agenda. Just my opinion.

@Texas-Hawk-10

That series is not happening regardless of what anyone says or doesn't say. Ok, say Marshall is a dick, like you said, does this make him a poor coach as many posters say? I think not.

Anyone Else • Mar 17, 2017 08:12 PM

4-1 so far and the only loss was OSU by 1 point to a higher seed. Pretty darn good.

The conference has a good chance to place 4 teams in the Sweet 16, unfortunately KU and ISU might have to play each other and only one will move to the Elite 8...assuming they win their first two games.

@Crimsonorblue22

I am sure that is not the worst KU has been called by other coaches. What do you think Weber, Drew, Smart, among others, say about KU at private booster function and when speaking off the record?

@Texas-Hawk-10

WSU has been trying for a while now to get the series going but KU is not bitting since there is no upside. Now they are trying to shame KU into playing them and still will not work. It is not as big a deal as it has been made out to be by the media that loves controversy.

I have pointed out before that WSU's trend is to have a few years of excellence and overachieving followed by many years of mediocrity. If Marshall leaves, WSU start the down cycle all over again.

Nothing but respect for teachers that work under those conditions; not many willing to do it. My daughter teaches special needs kids in an inner city school in Kansas City, Mo, and I know how stressful it can be.

Day 2 Tournament Thread • Mar 17, 2017 07:33 PM

...

@KirkIsMyHinrich

Again, he is the coach at Wichita State and it is his job to promote the program...I am curious, what exactly would you expect him to say instead?

Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 17, 2017 07:21 PM

@Hawk8086

How exactly was she punished harder? She was initially suspended and the suspension lifted shortly after and she did no miss any games. She continued to play extended minutes (contrarily to what she said) for a while and even tied her season high minutes long after the incident; her playing time decreased once her game went south in conference play. In fact, one could say she was not punished at all. The LJW had an excellent article with actual numbers that absolutely destroyed her case.

My question still is...does Title IX applies for events outside campus and when the individuals are in their own time and not in any school sponsored or associated events?

@jaybate-1.0

I seem to recall Indiana making a trip to the NCAA finals after Knight left...

I have to agree with @HighEliteMajor. There seems to be a visceral instinct to associate personal dislike with coaching competence or lack thereof.

I don't like Calipari, I think he knows a lot more about the behind the scenes shenanigans that got players to UMass, Memphis and now Kentucky than has been proven. I don't like Coach K, I believe he is smug, arrogant and sanctimonious. I don't care one way another about Sean Miller and I don't believe he is that different than most coaches except that because of the exposure he gets, exchanges in the huddle, that are normally private, get broadcasted and vilified, even when he did not do or say anything that other coaches don't. I don't care one way or another about Marshall personally and the dislike seems to come from off-the-record coments he made about KU. He wants to play KU desperately because there is lots of upside for his program and mostly downside for KU...do I like what he said? Of course not but I do understand; he is working to give his program an edge, which is his job, and after all he is the WSU and not the KU coach...what else do you expect him to say?

Having stated that I personally do not care for the four coaches in question, there is no question that hey are all outstanding coaches and all of them probably in the top 10....I would take any of them to coach my program instead of Cuonzo, Crean or Smart or any of the media hyped coaches that are not nearly as good.

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge! • Mar 17, 2017 06:42 AM

Two of my brackets had not been assigned to a group. I just joined the West group and so far looking good. 😁

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 17, 2017 06:20 AM

@HawkInMizery

I don't believe you are in any jeopardy. You can get permission from KU to use the logo in most everything, I.e. licensing. You have to provide samples for approval and make they make sure all the details, such as color, are correct and meets certain standards before granting licensing rights and you have to keep track of sales to pay royalties. The process is long and expensive and only pays if you are selling a fair amount. A friend of mine made wall hangings with the logo made out of carpet and went through the process so I am somewhat familiar with it.

Given that a sneaker with the KU logo would compete with its biggest licensor, I would be surprised if the grant a license, particularly if it is a Nike sneaker that directly competes with Adidas. Really nice sneaker regardless.

Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 17, 2017 04:24 AM

I have a question and hopefully someone has the answer. Since these events took place well outside the campus and KU control and while students were on their own and not in any official school event...does Title IX even apply?

@kjayhawks

I know some posters don't like Marshall but there is no doubt he can coach. With the Indiana tradition and resources and playing in a major conference, he could have what he cannot at Wichita. Marshall and Archie Miller are the most sought after candidates at this time.

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 17, 2017 03:44 AM

@HawkInMizery

They look awesome but I would think Adidas might have a problem since they pay KU a lot of money for the rights to use the logo and the last thing they want to see is the KU logo on a Nike shoe.

@dylans

California is quite different once you move away from the big cities, mostly LA and San Francisco and to a lesser extent San Diego, with the big Navy presence, and Sacramento.. Wine Country is absolutely beautiful and I would not mind living there...whether I can afford it is a different subject. I have been to Davis and it is a beautiful school with some excellent programs as well.

Martin has had plenty of talent and has not much to show for it. Even with lottery pick Rabb and good support players they just got booted out of the NIT in the first game.

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:59 PM

@BShark

His first 3 seasons at Indiana lowered his percentage quite a bit from what he had at Marquette and where he built his reputation. I would take him any time over Martin.

What is Alford's relationship with Indiana? Didn't they pass on him before?

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:50 PM

I bet MU is wishing it had waited one more day so it could have taken a stab at Crean. On the other hand, how bad is the MU program that they had to so grossly overpay and give a long term contract to an average (at best) coach?

@bskeet

I feel your pain. Been there, done that.

The suspense!!! • Mar 16, 2017 04:36 AM

@truehawk93

I think the coaching personalities needed for the NBA are quite different than those for college. In college assistant coaches tell the players what to do and they do it. In the NBA assistants suggest to the players what to do and players, who all make more money than the coaches, tell them if they feel like doing it...or not.

Has anyone picked KU to win it? • Mar 16, 2017 04:18 AM

You all might get a kick out of this... ↗

Cuonzo Martin • Mar 16, 2017 04:01 AM

@mayjay

He has stayed exactly 3 years at each of his 3 previous HC gigs...a trend?

Romar • Mar 16, 2017 03:37 AM

@truehawk93

Romar has had plenty of talent and it has grossly underperformed, Jones notwithstanding. When his Alma Mater is willing to let him go and risk losing the boatload of talent coming in tells you how poorly he has done in recent years...obviously a great recruiter but not that good of a coach.

The suspense!!! • Mar 16, 2017 03:30 AM

@truehawk93

Not likely. Manning is only 4 years younger than Coach Self and by the time Coach Self is getting ready to retire Danny will be not too far behind. Because of his NBA career, Danny started coaching fairly late, compared other top coaches and spent a long time as an assistant coach and by the time he has enough gravitas he will be close to retirement age. Given the circumstances, Danny's best path is probably to build his legacy at Wake Forest where he seems to be making good progress.

Romar • Mar 16, 2017 03:13 AM

@truehawk93

Well...no. Manning had been a long friend of Larry Brown from their playing days and Chalmers was hired after he moved to Lawrence to see Mario play. More importantly, at the time Manning and Chalmers were hired it was not against NCAA rules.

A more obvious hire was Lafayette Norwood, Darnel Valentine's HS coach who left KU after Valentine left. He did have a long career afterwards as a HC at Johnson County Community College.

Ok, now guys • Mar 16, 2017 01:55 AM

@Big-Clyde52

Hey...that is a tradition at KU and a perk we extend to a player from lesser teams regularly...can't really go against tradition...:smiley:

Ok, now guys • Mar 16, 2017 01:44 AM

@HawkChamp

They have 2 6'-8" players that do not play much and one that does. They do have 6'-3" Siler Schneider from Lansing Kansas that played 17 minutes and below average stats. Lucas should have a relatively easy time.

Saint Mary's also thrives on Aussies; Davidson also has a bunch of foreign players, many European.

So UC Davis it is...
