@KirkIsMyHinrich Nice analysis. Agreed, he showed flashes and we know from his HS reels he knows how to pass. My concerns are he’s not especially fast leading the break or putting pressure on a defense. Not strong/confident with the ball. And made a lot of bone head plays that you can’t have from a lead PG. Also not a threat to score at the rim for the above reasons.
Stuff like this makes me wince. From the KC Star:
Grimes hasn’t ruled out a return to Kansas and hasn’t specified what it would take for him to keep his name in the draft.
Should he return to Kansas, Grimes thinks he’ll be used differently as a player after proving over the course of the combine what a team’s offense looks like with him as the primary ball-handler.
“I think I’d have the ball in my hands more,” Grimes said of a return to KU. “I think I’ve shown the past couple of games of what I can do when the ball is in my hands.”

@KUSTEVE Maybe I’m wearing rose colored glasses, but I don’t remember Selden being so lackadaisical with D and rebounding or so detached from reality with regard to his own abilities. Was he a guy who struggled with effort and expected to coast through when he arrived?
@Marco Was looking forward to seeing Year Two Dotson big time and was happy Grimes was gone. He’d need to overhaul his approach to the game in a big way for me to enjoy watching him. Effort, D, rebounding, attitude...
Really want Dotson back. Would actually be a little let down if Grimes comes back to clutter up the court again after what he showed us last season.
Don’t care much about Precious but want the Wilson/Hampton combo bad.
@BShark The problem I have with this narrative is that Self loves the multi-guard attack as we all know and there were plenty of instances Grimes had the ball in his hands. Plenty of times he brought it up the floor.
I’d theorize that if he’d performed better as the “second PG,” Self would’ve given him additional playmaking opportunities...and I feel like he had plenty of on the ball ops to shine as it was.
I have a hard time blaming Self for this one.
No Precious, no Holyfield...Silvio come on down.
Wonder if Bill intends to play him this year.
How much does he play his freshman year?10 minutes a game if we get Silvio back? Seems like Holyfield would eat those if he commits.

An RJ, Dotson, Walker, Silvio and Doke starting lineup may be the worst shooting lineup in the country lol.
But they'd also be salty
A little like last season’s UK team, lots of athleticism and bounce, not much marksmanship.
Haven’t paid close enough attention to know how serviceable RJ & Walker are from 3.

Dotson 🤞
With RJ at the point. :eyes:
That would be an insane back court.
@BShark Raises the question of who would be playing the two. Didn’t think Ochai had the handles yet.

@FarmerJayhawk Agree.
Is the staff selling the 3 spot to Walker and Hampton? I thought they’d both want to play on the ball.
@BShark facepalm
@Kcmatt7 I’d take that for sure. Want Withey and Trob before we even talk about Lucas.
Guilty until proven innocent, that sounds about right.
Would be cool to see Withey join Trob and Ellis. Monster front court.
Or a pretty epic payout by Duke.
Agreed. Duke’s cash machine seems very well oiled. I think they get both.
I played some driveway ball just last weekend, I’ll send my LOI in.
At the beginning of the season, Grimes was the player I was most excited to see in a jersey. Now he's the probable departure I feel most ambivalent about. If he's gone, meh. I'll regret all the time I spent screaming at him to move his butt on D and go get a rebound.
@BeddieKU23 Beverly.
@BeddieKU23 When you say "athlete that can't shoot," I think of Marcus Garrett and the problems he causes with offensive flow. I love Garrett, all the more so if he develops a jumper, but assuming he doesn't...do we really want two Garrett-type players on the roster?
Hard to see Beard staying at TT now, although it would be great if he did!
@wissox Barrett pushed off to get that rebound. It wasn’t a coincidence... No call.
Always amazed how much Travis gets away with, typically the biggest guy on the court.
@KirkIsMyHinrich Exactly what I did. Ditto Oklahoma. And of course the one time I pick KState to win a couple...
I’m in. Happy March Madness Eve!
@justanotherfan Well said, sir! The definitive post on the Garrett Situation IMO.
What? Is this a fake thread?!
@Kcmatt7 Here's hoping you're right.
"...the downside is that they also might just be in each other’s way."
Well, we can only hope.
@BeddieKU23 Yeah, he's at the point where he needs to get his trey reps in at practice and automatically shoot it in games when he's wide open. Too much self-analysis going on. I imagine his hesitance on offense is hurting his normally great defense too.
Self was incensed after Garrett passed up an open three--yelling, slamming the scorer's table. He may have reacted this way more than once and the camera didn't catch it. Pretty sure Marcus passed up more than one.
Never thought I'd write these words, but...Garrett may have gotten the hook for not shooting enough low-percentage threes.

Iowa State is not a good team bye any stretch, I’m sure they’ll be fired up and ready to play against us. But there is no reason for it to be a close game. <
Making me nervous, folks were saying that before the Washington game too!
Bourbon, preferably at least 7 years old.
With Grimes rumored to be OAD by some, hard for me to see him backing up Garrett. I guess if Self plays small ball the entire season, that problem is solved.
@Kcmatt7 Nice breakdown.
Sounds like you're backing off your boy a little, @jayballer54. Can't say I blame you. I'm getting tired of the back and forth as well.
His family's been pretty transparent about the recruiting process...more so than any other recruit in my recent memory. Unfortunately, the transparency isn't winning them any points.

Dotson (or his parents or both) want a situation without another serious point guard/2 guard to compete with, in other words, nonnegotiable, guaranteed minutes. Not the make-up of a championship caliber team.
-
Lately we're hearing he's reluctant to go to KU bc he doesn't have any friends on the current roster.
Are you kidding? So now schools are expected to provide not just minutes but built-in relational security blankets. This whole recruitment is starting to spell INSECURITY.
What a joke. We watched two hours of filler for that?
@Kcmatt7 I use the same workaround with my google fiber.
@HighEliteMajor Perfect scenario there.
Make that two of us. I'll have an eye on whichever team drafts him.
@drgnslayr Kind of bizarre explanation but the best (only) one I've heard that even posits an answer. It was like they lost their team ID overnight, with a few exceptions (Mason, Vick).
Guess it's a mystery for the ages.
Thank God Cal lost at least. I'm rooting for USC now.
I think the second half game plan was solid. Better defense, OR struggled for good looks, and time and again KU had the opportunity to hit a shot and make it close. They took 3s early in the shot clock, some of them rushed, but a number of them were good looks, the kind of shots they've been making all season.
Several times I thought KU had OR right where they wanted them. They've been comeback kids all season. But Mason got no help, except from Svi, who cut the deficit to 6. Blaming Self for Graham's total no show and Jackson's mental flameout after his early fouls...maybe that makes sense to some but I can't get there.
Seems like Bill has won his fair share against U.K., Duke less so.
@BeddieKU23 I want one of these posters!
In my dream world, Mason goes 2nd to the 76ers so he can build his career setting up Embiid highlights. In reality, I'll be happy if he gets drafted first round.
