@kjayhawks I haven't watched either one. But if past shows are any indication, new law shows simplify (i.e., dumb down to virtual silliness) things as much as medical shows do!
@BeddieKU23 Good idea. Just as they wait until fb season is at least half over before releasing the NCAA "where the playoff contenders stand" ranking.
@justanotherfan KU's national notoriety would go up if we produced more actual NBA stars like Pierce. We have produced a plethora of journeymen (Collison and Hinrich notably; Mason and Graham's track, too), but even Embiid (if he has longevity), and Wiggins and Jackson (if they happen to break out) were only at KU for 1 year and so the association to casual fans is weak. Especially since KU flamed out before expected in their years.
Still, here in football country, I get a lot of comments about how great KU is--in bb, followed by comments about fb, of course!
I enjoy my dark cave. Les Miles is bringing at least the promise of some light.

The word is out that the way to beat KU is to shoot lots of 3s...
The way to beat KU is to outscore us any way possible. That goes back to Dr. Naismith's original Rules. Any "word is out" statement on a specific strategy should be qualified by asking, "Who is spreading that word since no one has done that?"
@wrwlumpy Singular because it is the color, not the bird.
@BShark My own thought was wondering if they have a training program arrangement so grads can join the Rockettes.
@Gorilla72 Maybe they had a blind scorer?
@wissox We would never go if not planning on a month there anyway. Maui is ridiculously expensive, but we will use a few saved timeshare weeks to help.
@wissox We plan on going since the kids will still be there!
@stoptheflop You are right. But it will take awhile before we can expect our 3 frosh to be able to set picks legitimately on whoever is guarding Vick tightly. I never want to see the rash of illegal screens we have sometimes seen in past years, especially with the feet-no-wider-than-shoulder-width rule changes. With the inside dominance of Doke and D Lawson, and Doke's whistle-magnet bulk, it will be hard to get picks from the big guys without risking possession-killing fouls. The balance should develop, though, if Grimes's shooting picks up and the defenders have to start divvying up their outside attention.
Is everyone happy Grimes and KJ are showing why MG should not play?
@Gorilla72 The information implicating Arizona involving Stumpy was based on someone supposedly having listened to leaked unreleased FBI recordings. The issues involving KU, like it or not, were raised in evidence (both admitted and only proffered) and attorney arguments in an actual trial. The big difference here was supposedly an NCAA investigation and okay for UA last spring to play the guy getting the money, but KU has gotten no resolution. It may be due to the qualitative difference between rumored evidence and more concrete info (which I still contend is not very probative). KU, by keeping SDS out, gets ongoing attention as each game goes by.

Thanks for another great year of shooting the breeze! I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving. If you have any good family stories please tell. I'm curious how scared your non-KU relatives are of the Les Miles hiring.
A full decade has passed since KU fans were not scared about talking football at Thanksgiving.
The biggest problem for Jamari is he didn't improve after his sophomore year. He had some spectacular plays, and was at his best in working the high/low passing system Self cherishes, but he was not creative in making his own opportunities to score. I already see a huge difference between "reactive JT" and the aggression Garrett has started displaying. I think it is a bit premature to predict Garrett won't improve based on this point only a few games into his sophomore year.
I suspect Self's reasons for playing MG had more to do with teaching Grimes a lesson, and about intensity on D, than about trying to get points. I can't say that he is "wrong" when he knows on what criteria he is judging players. There could also be attitude issues, excuse making, etc, that we don't see. I thought the 2 blocks by Garrett were huge, and he played a major role with some timely rebounds when it looked like he was the only one being aggressive on the boards. Since Self believes that "2 pts prevented is the same as 2 scored" we should just chalk it up to the number of failed Marq possessions Garrett managed to control.

@Kcmatt7 and yet we have struggled at both ends at times. I do agree with @Texas-Hawk-10 that we will grow and continue to improve.
I believe both statements are true about every team in college basketball in November!
@approxinfinity If you read what I actually wrote, I'm not addressing what he did (founder and sole employee, apparently). I was addressing the type of structure, not the activities, and the comments that seem to find it nefarious that the conservative donors are not disclosed. Planned Parenthood is also a dark money group.
I don't like the tenor of these articles, and others I saw on this subject. I do have lots of reasons to oppose Whittaker, but this salary thing is a drama without a plot. He ran the organization and got a salary. Big deal. Yes, it has conservative donors. Believe it or not, that is legal and is not emblematic of a conspiracy to destroy Democracy.
Liberals (including me) would be marching brandishing the First Amendment if a Cabinet appointee was attacked for working for the ACLU or the Southern Poverty Law Center or Amnesty International.

@jayballer73 Supposedly season ticket holds are already calling in to renew and several former members of the Williams fund are looking to get back in from what I've seen and heard. Our attendance will be the highest its been since at least 2010 next season.
I understand opioid use is down in Lawrence as people anticipate easing of their pain.
@nuleafjhawk Good point on the "Mahomes tossed around like a bean bag" tackle attempt. One additional thought is that, if successful, Mahomes at best would have kept the Rams at the 2 yard line or so. The defense would have then held for 2 plays, only to get called for PI in the end zone, and then a touchdown from the 1. So, the good news is for once we were saved from that lather-rinse-repeat-repeat-repeat scenario.
Gnight!
Pretty dumb when you need only a FG to tie.
Tipped?
Hill!
That is a fine example of the KC secondary tackling art.
I hope everybody bet big on the Over.
When you get a sack, but there was a holding OL penalty that gets accepted, does the sack count?
@dylans There were also at leasr 2 declined penalties. And these haven't been bad calls. Our secondary has been exposed--again.
@BShark We who live in the county outside the city limits of Columbia have to pay about 50% more to the city for our water. They also charge a measured amount calculated at almost twice the amount of the water bill for the sewer system. And those of us with pools get no setoff for the fact that much of our water does not go into the sewer. So we are paying close to 3 times the rate as city residents 500 feet away pay for water. The SC legislature and courts find nothing wrong with this!
@BShark I hope the water bill isn't a surprise!
Don't forget our favorite accomplishment of Marquette: 2003, Final 4 Semifinal Loss.
@jayballer73 And then just 3 minutes later water finds its level....
And Jay Wright, who is not Bill Self, benched a 5 star! Stop the presses!

@stoptheflop And yet, even though I would have guessed UL made most of their 3s, the box score shows only 33.3%. Those uncovered looks made it seem like more!
I read somewhere that 3 pt fg defense is hard to quantify because there are so many missed open shots that make %ages go down yet are unrelated to defensive effort. This game may illustrate that.
@Texas-Hawk-10 The current logo is a slightly altered version of the one created by KU student Hal Sandy in 1946. I worked for Sandy Inc, an advertising display company in KC, during school vacations in the late 70's thru 1981, but unfortunately he had sold it by then so I never met him. I remember the first day I worked there I found out why the Jayhawk copyright had his name, not KU like today, after the circled c. Keep it, I say!
@JayHawkFanToo Maybe Fran read the rampant speculations we had here on this Board where people imagined what was said. Then, unable to separate fact from fiction or to control which one had control of his voicebox, his head finally imploded.
@HighEliteMajor Since the info isn't developed yet, all we can do, of course, is speculate. The biggest difference I see so far is that the money and benefits went directly to the BYU kid, followed by the fact that the payments were from a long-lasting booster of BYU. While an Adidas rep could be a booster, that company was also "boosting" dozens of other schools so there are different principal/agent considerations involved--predominantly, KU had no apparent authority over anything the Adidas guys were doing. Further, most university boosters have an ongoing relationship with athletics, attending games, getting preferred seating, etc, so the schools are usually presumed to be in cahoots when their players get extras. It might be possible for KU to demonstrate a sufficient lack of connection with the Adidas guy, including his desire to pay funds to induce separate pro agency relationships independent of KU's concerns.
Enough differences that I would feel comfortable with arguing KU's case. (Then again, I was comfortable arguing all types of crappy legal positions way back when--you lose 95% of the time appealing court-martial convictions, so you learn to live with it!)
@BShark Ah, another Scotch digression! We have a cruise scheduled for April. We are signing up for the $25 Macallan Scotch tasting, which acc to reviews includes among the 3 sampled a 30 year I never would, or could, buy.
@BigBad For Silvio, we still don't know if he is complicit. But, BYU has let the guy who personally accepted thousands in benefits back onto their team. I wonder if the NCAA's order that they vacate 47 wins will affect his position with the coaches or teammates.
@BeddieKU23 Silvio is in this "pickle" because he had a guardian who apparently sold Silvio's services to not just one but two universities. At best, Silvio took no interest in the instructions he was given to abruptly change his choice. At worst, he was complicit and jeopardized his career and KU's entire program. I see no similar information regarding the coaches except KT's discussion of what Zion's family supposedly wanted but certainly never got from KU.
@dylans Well, yes, but the big one, in 1989, wasn't televised where I was, so not much memory for me there! There were a couple blowouts since then, on both sides. I don't have much recall of those.
I preferred the OT game in 2016 myself! Of course, that was January....
Here is a nice list (a UK site, so results are W/L from their viewpoint) (edit: pic won't load, so here is the site):
@HawkChamp We had lots of those for years, IIRC. And I remember none of them. Games that are closer, and even losses, can be frustrating but they also draw you in and are more memorable.
@Kcmatt7 Surprising? Ha!!! Have you not been reading this board for years? It could be renamed "Buckets of Overreactions"!
@FarmerJayhawk Based on a small sample size, Dedrick has become a liability and should be benched!
The Rams practice field in Thousand Oaks was only 3 miles from the fires a few days ago, and the firefighters dug an interdiction ditch across the street. 90 players and staffers had to be relocated to hotels as far away as Santa Barbara. Their coach gave game balls on Sunday to the staff members who worked all night getting all that done.
Edit: this info came from Peter King's NFL column, now on NBCSports.com after he left SI.
@kjayhawks The Internet scares me, but more in an existential way!
